The Duxbury Public Schools is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Elementary Assistant Principal (Interim) - Chandler Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year. The Chandler Elementary Assistant Principal supports the Principal in leading the school community by fostering a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring the academic, social, and emotional success of all students.
The duties of the position include:
- Serves as the accountable administrator during the principal’s absence;
- Assists the principal in the educational, curricular and instructional leadership of the school;
- Fosters the development of a positive, respectful school climate;
- Assists the principal in the supervision and evaluation of teachers and support staff;
- Assists the principal in the recruitment and hiring of professional and support staff;
- Organizes and oversees the transition of students and families;
- Oversees the implementation of the program of student discipline procedures as specified in the Code of Conduct and Parent handbooks;
- Oversees the supervision of students in the cafeteria and on the playground;
- Oversees daily attendance procedures and record keeping, and takes action on absences as needed;
- Coordinates or assists in the administration of Kindergarten Screening;
- Serves as a member of standing committees which provide academic or emotional support to students;
- Oversees the Student Support Team Process;
- Oversees the development and updating of District Curriculum Accommodation Plans and 504 Accommodation Plans;
- Coordinates community connections for the student population in order to enhance the learning experience of each child;
- Schedules and supervises school-related activities and events;
- Supervises and oversees the program of non-athletic, co-curricular activities within the school, including building use by student organizations and assembly programs;
- Assists the principal in planning regular meetings of the faculty and staff, and other work groups within the school, and presides over such meetings when assigned by the principal;
- Supervises the daily operations of the building including custodial services, maintenance of the building, safety programs and fire drills; assists in developing the school master schedule which includes teacher and student schedules, special area instruction, plus lists and room assignments;
- Supervises the transportation operations in cooperation with the Business Manager;
- Assists the principal in the development of the annual budget;
- Oversees the ordering and maintains the necessary level of supplies to support teachers in the instructional program;
- Communicates and meets with student, parent and community groups for programming purposes;
- Participates in personal professional development;
- Coordinates and supervises building-based professional development activities;
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, or a related field
- Previous teaching experience
- Certification: Current Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Licensure: Principal/Assistant Principal (1-6), (PreK-8)
